Visiting our charity partner in Uganda ten years on

Global English TESOL courses has been supporting the Amigos charity, based close to us in Barnstaple, Devon, since 2009.

Amigos seeks to help change young lives in Uganda for the better, through giving disadvantaged youngsters an opportunity to gain vocational training, so that they can develop practical skills that are in much need in modern Ugandan society.

10 years ago, Global English TESOL founder William Bradridge visited Uganda to see the need first-hand and identify ways that GE could best support this fantastic initiative. In a country ravaged first by war and then by AIDs, where 50% of the population is under the age of 15 years old, we wanted to try to play our part to help in some small way, through education and unconditional love. Therefore, we decided that we would give 10% of our profit each year to help  train and equip young Ugandans to for better lives.

Now, a decade on, I am travelling to Uganda with my 17 year old daughter to see first-hand the impact that Amigos has been able to make into these young lives. It is an exciting time to go, because I'll get to meet some of the people who deliver the programmes, as well as the current group of 40 Ugandan students, who are being trained and will be going home at the end of the year equipped with practical skills that will enable them to better support their families and local communities.

We will be spending almost 2 weeks on Kira farm and during this time I will be helping to deliver a new training programme aimed at supporting young girls in the surrounding area.

I look forward to reporting back and sharing with you some of our experiences of how your course fees have been used to support and change young lives. You can see an example of the impact Kira Farm has made here. But for now, this is a thank you for choosing to study with Global English TESOL and in doing so helping to make a practical difference to lives much less fortunate than our own.
