The EPIK/SMOE  (Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education) program is looking for qualified native English speakers for positions in Korean public schools. These are some of Asia's most sought after positions.

Various cities all over the country                                                            

Number of TEFL/TESOL positions available: 
Hundreds of positions are available every session.

Start date, hours per week and length of contract: 
There are two sessions each year, one that starts in mid-February, and one that starts in mid-August. Hours are normal public school hours, Monday to Friday with weekends off. 

40 hour work week with roughly 22 teaching hours per week.
Contracts are for one year.         

Pay, holidays and additional benefits:  

  • Free housing provided by the EPIK Program (utilities not included)
  • Entrance Allowance of 1.3 mil won to purchase a one-way ticket
  • Exit Allowance of 1.3 mil won or a renewal Bonus of 2.0 mil won for resigning
  • 10 days of ESL training in Seoul
  • A Korean co-teacher in every class
  • Paid vacation for 18 working days plus 13-15 National Holidays
  • Medical insurance and pension, 50% of which is covered by the EPIK Program
  • Higher salaries for teachers who choose to work in more rural locations ranging from 2.1 million won per month to 2.7 million won per month
  • Lots of opportunity for travel and adventure

Is there a placement fee or any other fee to the applicant for arranging their position?
All EPIK support services are free for teachers.

Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum level of Global English TESOL cert required: 120 hour Teach Korea course

Nationality preferred:  
Applicants must be a legal resident of the USA, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. 

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum education of Bachelor's degree
  • Under 55 years of age
  • No criminal record
  • Be mentally and physically healthy
  • TEFL course (120 hour +) Recommended: 120 hour Teach Korea course 

Applicants must also have at least ONE of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Education / English / English Education / English Literature or Linguistics (major's in Writing will be considered as an English major. E.g., Creative Writing, Critical Writing)
  • Valid teacher certification for either Elementary or Secondary level schools
  • TESOL / TEFL or an English Teaching Certificate comprising a minimum of 100 course hours
  • Master's Degree
  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline with at least ONE full year of English teaching experience
