Designed for Global English online TESOL trainees who would like official recognition of their in-class voluntary or paid teaching. Your 20 hour Teaching Practice (TP) can consist of any in-class help you give; from assisting a lead teacher to observing classes, as long as you lead a class for at least 6 hours.

Eligibility
Open to Global English current trainees, graduates and new trainees with Global English TESOL. Not available to candidates with other non-Global English TESOL qualifications.

Full course syllabus
Your TP programme should consist of a minimum 20 hours class time.
Upon enrolment, you will log in to your student area, meet your personal tutor and view the forms ready for download:
Time log form – completed by you and signed by the sponsoring institution confirming your completion of 20 hours in-class time. 6 hours must be you leading a class teaching English. The remaining hours can consist of being a class assistant or observing a class (minimum of 2 students per class). Please note, home tutoring 1-1 cannot be included in this class since it is vital for the integrity of the programme that your TP experience is verifiable by a 3rd party.
Self-evaluation form - submit a guided reflection on a lesson you have delivered. You will be assigned a Global English personal tutor for advice, guidance and who will also mark your self-evaluation.
Where can I get teaching practice?
It is important that your teaching practice is classroom based and can be verified by a 3rd party ‘host’ of some description for the validity of your certificate. This is why tutoring 1-1 privately/online does not count towards TP under this scheme.
There is a huge demand to learn English and in most locations worldwide there are numerous opportunities to teach English in the paid or voluntary sector.
The documentation we need your sponsoring organisation to provide for us is simple and requires minimal time input. They need to commit to allowing you to lead a class for 6 hours of teaching, with a further 14 hours of either teaching, assisting an experienced teacher or observing a class. They then sign to verify your participation.

- faith-based organisations, churches and ‘international cafes’
- local government or state programmes running English classes
- universities and colleges with or without specific ESL departments
- libraries
- community centres based around cultural groups (find these through the internet on local search engines)
- language schools

Is this 20-hour course accredited?
Yes. Global English has been an accredited TEFL/TESOL training provider since 1997. Every certificate carries a unique student certificate number and the logos of our accrediting bodies, ACTDEC and ISO. An optional hard-copy ACTDEC certificate is also available on successful completion.
How long does the course take, and how long do I have to complete it?
The 20-hour course is fully self-paced and studied entirely online, so you can work as quickly or as gradually as you like. Most students finish in a few weeks of part-time study, and you have several months of access. If you need more time, low-cost time extensions are available.
Do I need a degree or teaching experience to enrol?
You do not need a degree. This is a specialist course rather than a first qualification, so it assumes you already hold an initial TEFL/TESOL certificate, or are taking one alongside it. If you are starting from scratch, begin with our 120-hour TESOL Premier certificate and add this course to it.
Is there a real tutor, or is everything automated?
Every Global English course includes a real, qualified personal tutor who marks your assignments and gives you individual written feedback throughout. Nothing is auto-marked – genuine tutor feedback is how you develop real teaching skill, not just a certificate.
How is the course assessed?
Assessment is continuous and coursework-based. You complete written assignments and practical tasks that you submit online for your personal tutor to mark. There is no final exam and no fixed exam date – you progress at your own pace.
What certificate will I receive, and is it recognised?
On successful completion you receive a Global English digital (PDF) certificate free of charge, showing your unique student certificate number and the ACTDEC and ISO accreditation logos. TEFL/TESOL certification from Global English is recognised by language schools, recruiters and online teaching platforms worldwide.
