I teach English in Hong Kong

We asked Global English TESOL graduate, Erin Levant about her experiences teaching English in Hong Kong and how she managed to secure some of the most rewarding teaching contracts there over the last four years.

Hi Erin, can you tell us something about yourself?
I grew up in a small town in New Hampshire, United States, where there are more cows than people! I learned to love classic literature in English and other languages, and continued my education at the George Washington University in Washington, DC, where I earned my degree in Spanish Language Literature.  After completing my post-graduate teaching certification, I taught in Texas and the United Arab Emirates before settling with my husband in Hong Kong. July of 2014 will mark my fourth year teaching here!

Tell me about your teaching experience after completing the Global English TESOL programme.
The Global English TESOL programme opened me up to a wide range of different teaching options in Hong Kong.  The certificate is considered heavily by Hong Kong employers and the name of Global English is highly respected. Adding the TESOL endorsement to my resume has proven a very smart decision, as I am now considering multiple teaching positions for the coming academic year.

Any advice for teachers interested in living and teaching in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong students are loyal, loving, and immensely curious. I have taught students from age 2 to 13, and they have all impressed me with their work ethic and enthusiasm. Hong Kong is a very friendly city for expats, and a wonderful mix of East and West. When I'm not teaching, there is no lack of interesting cultural, culinary, and sightseeing opportunities.

What has been your experience teaching in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong is amazing!  I have had the opportunity to teach at a local primary school and kindergarten through a company call Eureka.  Eureka Language Education Centre has always done a phenomenal job of matching me with schools and consulting opportunities that fit my skill set while challenging me and allowing me to expand my horizons.  Most recently Eureka provided me with the opportunity to train local teachers.  That was a wonderfully rewarding experience.  If you want to live and teach in Asia’s world city I recommend you contact Eureka immediately!  The staff at Eureka are dedicated and love what they do and will be able to help you!

Thank you, Erin! Hope you go on to enjoy many more happy years in Hong Kong.
