Teach English at a language academy in Portugal
Portugal is one of Western Europe's most welcoming destinations for English teachers, combining a mild climate, a low cost of living and a relaxed, sociable culture. Private language academies in Lisbon, Porto, the Algarve and across the country recruit English speakers throughout the year to teach general and conversational English to children, teenagers and adults.
The role
- Teaching general and conversational English across mixed ages and levels
- Around 20 to 30 classroom hours per week, plus preparation time
- Contracts most often begin ahead of the September and January terms
Typically offered
- A monthly salary usually in the region of €1,000–€1,400 net, with two annual bonus payments (Christmas and summer)
- Support with settling in and finding accommodation
- A supportive teaching team and lesson resources
Requirements
- A recognised 120-hour TEFL/TESOL qualification such as the Global English TESOL certificate
- Fluent English and a genuine rapport with students
- EU citizens can work freely; non-EU applicants should hold the right to work in Portugal
