Hong Kong NET Scheme - Hong Kong

Hong Kong's Native-speaking English Teacher (NET) Scheme is run by the Education Bureau and has placed native English speakers in government and aided schools since 1998 (secondary) and 2002 (primary). Its aim is to raise English standards and give students authentic exposure to the language through full-time NET posts and collaboration with local English panels. The scheme runs separate primary (PNET) and enhanced secondary streams, each with its own qualification requirements.

Requirements: native-level English plus a relevant bachelor's degree and a teacher-training qualification such as a PGDE/PGCE and/or a TEFL/TESOL certificate, with specifics differing between the primary and secondary streams. Relevant teaching experience is preferred.

Salary & benefits: employment on government pay scales with additional NET-specific allowances, making it one of the best-remunerated public-school English roles in Asia.

Intake: recruitment is centralised through the Education Bureau; successful candidates enter a candidate pool from which individual schools recruit. Applications for the 2026/27 school year close on 24 April 2026.
