English teachers wanted for private language academies in San Jose and Costa Rica's Central Valley. Adults and professionals, 32 paid vacation days and January and July intakes.
Country: Costa Rica
Location: San Jose and the Central Valley, including Heredia and Cartago.
Position: English teacher at a private language academy.
Contract: Around ten to twelve months. The main intake is in January, with a second intake in June and July.
Hours and duties: About 20 to 30 teaching hours per week with adults and working professionals. You will plan communicative lessons, track progress and help learners build practical, spoken English.
Pay and benefits: A monthly salary of US$750 to US$1,100 (around 320,000 to 635,000 colones), set by the cost of living. A generous 32 paid vacation days per year is a common perk. Many teachers work on a tourist visa renewed every 90 days, which is permitted as the sale of professional services; some academies sponsor a work permit.
Requirements: A bachelor's degree in any subject and a 120-hour TEFL or TESOL certificate. Academies usually hire citizens of the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.
Qualifications: A Global English TESOL qualification and a bachelor's degree.
