Americas: Chile English Opens Doors - Chile

Chile's official Ministry of Education volunteer scheme, UNDP-backed, placing teaching assistants in public schools.

The English Opens Doors Program (Programa Inglés Abre Puertas) is Chile's national English-improvement initiative, run by the Ministry of Education with support from the United Nations Development Programme. Each year it recruits a few hundred international volunteers to work as teaching assistants alongside Chilean English teachers in public schools, helping 10–18-year-olds build listening and speaking skills through communicative, game-based lessons.

Requirements: native or near-native English, a bachelor's degree, a clean background check, and typically an age range of 21 to 35. No teaching licence is required.

Salary & benefits: structured as a cultural-exchange volunteer placement - participants receive a modest monthly stipend and live with a host family who provides a room and meals, keeping costs low while offering deep immersion in Chilean life. Volunteers work around 24 classroom hours plus planning time each week.

Intake: volunteers commit to an academic term or year; confirm the current intake calendar on the official programme page as dates rotate.
