Frequently asked questions

Is this 100-hour course accredited?

Yes. Global English has been an accredited TEFL/TESOL training provider since 1997. Every certificate carries a unique student certificate number and the logos of our accrediting bodies, ACTDEC and ISO. An optional hard-copy ACTDEC certificate is also available on successful completion.

How long does the course take, and how long do I have to complete it?

The 100-hour course is fully self-paced and studied entirely online, so you can work as quickly or as gradually as you like. Most students finish in a few weeks of part-time study, and you have several months of access. If you need more time, low-cost time extensions are available.

Do I need a degree or teaching experience to enrol?

No. You do not need a degree or any previous teaching experience to start. You simply need a good standard of written English and a computer with internet access. The course is designed for complete beginners as well as practising teachers looking to gain a formal qualification.

Is there a real tutor, or is everything automated?

Every Global English course includes a real, qualified personal tutor who marks your assignments and gives you individual written feedback throughout. Nothing is auto-marked – genuine tutor feedback is how you develop real teaching skill, not just a certificate.

How is the course assessed?

Assessment is continuous and coursework-based. You complete written assignments and practical tasks that you submit online for your personal tutor to mark. There is no final exam and no fixed exam date – you progress at your own pace.

What certificate will I receive, and is it recognised?

On successful completion you receive a Global English digital (PDF) certificate free of charge, showing your unique student certificate number and the ACTDEC and ISO accreditation logos. TEFL/TESOL certification from Global English is recognised by language schools, recruiters and online teaching platforms worldwide. A prestigious hard-copy ACTDEC certificate can be ordered as an optional extra.

Will this qualification help me get a teaching job?

A recognised TEFL/TESOL qualification is the standard entry requirement for teaching English abroad and online. This course adds a specialist qualification to your CV that employers value; most schools look for a minimum of 120 hours of core TEFL training alongside it.

How do I pay, and is there a guarantee?

You can enrol securely online and start straight away. We accept payment by card (Visa and Mastercard) through Stripe, as well as valid discount and Groupon voucher codes. Every online course is covered by our 14-day money-back guarantee, so you can begin completely risk-free.

What do I need to study the interactive version?

The interactive version runs on our online learning platform and works on a PC, Mac or tablet, so all you need is a reliable internet connection. Prefer to work offline? The offline version lets you download the coursework in PDF/Word and study without being connected.

Is this specialist course enough on its own to get a teaching job?

No. Most schools and online platforms still screen for a 120-hour (or longer) accredited TEFL/TESOL certificate. This course is an add-on that names a specialist skill on top of that core certificate.

This is the 5th online course that I have done with Global English. I completed the Cert.(ES)TESOL course in February 2008, and have since done the Business English course, the English Grammar course, TEYL and now the Cert.(TM)TESOL up-grade course.

I thought about it for some time, but decided to do the up-grade course for two reasons - interest in the subjects, and to continue my professional development. I found the upgrade course very thought provoking. The background knowledge of phonetics and phonology in Module 1 was very interesting, as was the introduction to linguistics covered in Module 2.

The Final Assignment was the most challenging part of the course. Researching the distinction between language acquisition and language learning is relevant for English language teachers, and evaluating my own experience of language learning and teaching helped to make it more personal and memorable.

I've learned so much, and look forward to putting some of that knowledge to good use.

I have found all the tutors at GE to be very professional, and the service is outstanding. Course work is marked quickly, and queries are often answered the same day. My tutor was very supportive, and she always gave very helpful comments on my work. Thank you, Clare, for all your help and encouragement.

I'm a bit sad that I have finished with GE, but am happy with the time that I was a GE trainee. Many thanks to everyone at Global English.

Great clarity: the reader knows what is being presented, why, and what is expected from them, and where they are in relation to everything else in the course - clear well-thought out progression

There is continual encouragement for 'Further Research' for those wishing to go a bit deeper / build up their teaching material/examples, as well as many original teaching ideas.

There is continual support and reassurance and students are always clear how many points are awarded for a certain tasks.
