Get ready to teach English in Japan with Gaba

Did you know…

* Japan consists of over 6000 islands?
* Animated Japanese films and TV shows (anime) account for 60% of the world’s animation-based entertainment?
* Sushi used to be eaten as ‘street food’? *

As you can imagine, there is so much more to this fascinating country than the above three facts. Steeped in history and culture, friendly and welcoming, and with a real thirst to learn English, Japan could well be THE place to go and teach English once Covid restrictions end.

Savvy English teachers could do well in lining up a job now to get ahead in the recruitment stakes. And with Gaba, a business English teaching organisation in Japan, you can do just that. Gaba is actively searching for English teachers for when lockdown ends.

Gaba is hosting a special information webinar on June 9th JST at 5.30 pm JST via Zoom for prospective teachers. Ahead of this, we asked Sian Adams, from their instructor recruitment division, more about the roles Gaba offers, and who they are looking for….

What is the teaching landscape like in Japan now?
At Gaba, we provide both face-to-face and online lessons to our clients. However, all online lessons are taught by instructors physically present at our locations in Japan.

Is Japan welcoming overseas teachers back?
Unfortunately, given the current border restrictions still in place, new instructors are not able to enter Japan yet. However, we are continuing to monitor the situation but are maintaining the recruiting process in anticipation of border restrictions being lifted.

What are the essential prerequisites to work for Gaba?
To teach with Gaba, the basic requirements are to be 20 years old and above, have native-level English speaking ability, and have a valid working visa for Japan. If visa sponsorship is required then an additional bachelor's degree or higher that was taught in English or three years of full-time English teaching experience.

Can you briefly list the advantages of working for Gaba?
With Gaba, you have flexibility over your own schedule, which means you can use that flexibility to adapt to your life in Japan and make the most of your time here. Most of our clients are working professionals, so you have the opportunity to teach highly motivated adults from various industries across Japan. With our lessons being 1-1, this means that your lessons can be client-focused and productive, making your teaching experience very rewarding.
