Paid English teaching posts at international and elite private schools in Colombo for TEFL-qualified, experienced teachers, in a beautiful island setting.
Location: Colombo and other main towns
Position: English teacher, international / elite private school
Vacancies: Periodic, mainly around the start of the school year
Contract: Typically 1–2 years
Hours / duties: A full weekday timetable teaching English across primary or secondary years within an English-medium curriculum.
Pay: Roughly LKR 95,000–440,000 a month (around £350–£1,630) depending on the school and your experience.
Additional benefits: Established schools often add a housing allowance, health insurance and paid holidays.
Qualifications and requirements
Minimum TESOL certificate: A Global English TESOL qualification of at least 120 hours.
Nationality: Native or fluent English speaker.
Other requirements: Paid posts are competitive and generally expect a degree and prior teaching experience; the best openings are at international and elite private schools in the capital.
