What it is. Susan Griffith's independent guide to finding paid English teaching work overseas, published by Crimson Publishing. It is not a methodology book at all: it is a job-hunting manual with a country directory attached, now in its sixteenth edition.
How it is built. The first half covers the market - which qualifications employers actually ask for, where vacancies are advertised, how recruiters and agencies work, what to expect from a contract, and the visa and red-tape questions that decide whether a job is legal in the first place. The second half is a country-by-country directory giving regions, typical employers, indicative pay, term dates and entry requirements, interleaved with first-hand accounts from teachers who took those jobs.
Who it suits. Anyone taking a TEFL or TESOL certificate in order to go somewhere. Read the market chapters early, while you are still choosing a course, because they explain why the hours and the level printed on a certificate matter to an employer. Read the country chapters before you commit to a destination rather than after.
What it does not do. It will not teach you to teach, and here the edition genuinely matters: the sixteenth dates from March 2017, so treat pay figures, visa rules and named schools as orientation and check anything current against the country's own immigration site and our jobs board. The analysis of how the market works has aged far better than the numbers in it have.
