What it is. A general English coursebook for adults and older teenagers at intermediate level, roughly CEFR B1, written by Sarah Cunningham and Peter Moor for Pearson Longman. This is the Students' Book - the volume a learner is handed - rather than the Teacher's Resource Book.
How it is built. Cutting Edge is a task-led series: each module builds towards a communicative task, and the language focus and vocabulary work are positioned to feed that task rather than to stand on their own. Modules combine a language focus section, vocabulary sets, reading and listening texts, a pronunciation strand, and consolidation pages that deliberately recycle earlier material.
Why a trainee buys a Students' Book. Two reasons, and neither is to study from it. First, it shows you what a syllabus looks like when somebody has already sequenced it: what comes before the second conditional, how vocabulary is recycled, how much a single unit actually contains. Second, it calibrates the word "intermediate". Skim the reading texts and you can see the range a B1 class can handle, which is very hard to guess before you have taught one.
What it does not do. The rationale, the answer keys and the extra activities live in the Teacher's Resource Book, not here, so this volume alone will not tell you how to run the lesson. Buy it to read a coursebook the way a teacher reads one, alongside the lesson-planning and coursebook-evaluation work on your course, which is where the method is taught.
