Terms and Conditions
Application for enrolment onto the Teaching Practice Week in Portugal is seen as acceptance of the following terms and conditions. Global English and GT Teaching (GT Traduções, Ensino & Serviços em Inglês, Lda.) reserve the right to change or amend the terms and conditions of the programme at any time. Please read the following information carefully.
- Company - The name and address of the supplier is Global English, Senate Court, Southernhay Gardens, Exeter, EX1 1NT, United Kingdom. The partners are William Bradridge and Louisa Walsh. To correspond with us or in the event of any complaint, please contact us at the above address or by email at info@global-english.com The name and address of the school where the teaching programme is organised is GT Traduções, Ensino & Serviços, Lda., Av. Heróis de Angola, 76, 3º A, 2400-153 Leiria, Portugal.
- Enrolment - acceptance on the course is at the discretion of the Global English Director of Studies and the Director of GT Teaching. Global English and GT Teaching reserve the right to refuse any application. Global English trainees who have enrolled on a TESOL Level 1 or 2 course are eligible to apply for the study practice. Non Global English applicants should hold a TEFL certificate (minimum of 100 study hour course). All trainees who complete an application form and attach an initial refundable deposit for the practical component in Portugal, and are deemed eligible by Global English, will receive a telephone call from GT Teaching to assess suitability for the course. A reference will be required before full admission is given. Should an application not be accepted, prospective trainees will receive a full refund of the deposit. Providing information which is incorrect will either result in refusal of admission or expulsion from the course when discovered.
- Pricing - Global English and GT Teaching provide a Teaching Practice Week in Portugal. Fees for the course can be found on the Prices page of our website and are held until the date stated on that page. The prices are the same worldwide. Sterling prices are fixed although Euro prices may change subject to fluctuation in the exchange rate. VAT is charged at the UK rate of 17.5 % and is applicable on all courses sold within the EU.
- Method of payment - Trainees pay at point of sale.
A) By Internet - on the enrolment form on our website. Global English then contacts you to arrange for payment to be made. You can choose to pay in the following currencies: Euro or Sterling. If choosing to pay over the Internet, Global English processes the card for an initial deposit of £50/75 Euros. A confirmation of receipt of deposit will be sent via email. This details the date of transaction, delivery details, type of course, payment type and amount. Should an application not be accepted, prospective trainees will receive and a full refund of the deposit. Upon full acceptance onto the course, your card will be processed for the remainder of the fees. A confirmation of receipt and fees will be sent via email.
B) By post or telephone Prospective trainees may telephone and request an
application form by post. No dates may be reserved until payment has been made.
- Cancellation policy After course acceptance is formally confirmed by Global English, the initial deposit becomes non-refundable. Should prospective trainees decide not to participate in the course after an application has been accepted, the Global English cancellation policy is as follows:
Cancellation prior to 60 days of the course commencement:
100% refund (less deposit)
Cancellation between 31 and 60 days of the course commencement:
50% refund (less deposit)
Cancellation within 30 days of the course commencement: no refund
For the purposes of Cancellation, course commencement means 08.00 GMT of the agreed course start date, as published on our website. Formal written notification to Global English (by letter or email) is required before cancellation is accepted. Should Global English or GT Teaching need to cancel a course for any reason, notification will be given in writing and a full refund of all course fees and deposit will be made.
- Course transfer Students may transfer to another course date on the following conditions:
1) Availability of preferred course dates.
2) Transfer is made prior to 30 days before any course commencement.
3) With the agreement of Global English and GT Teaching
Course transfers are not permitted within 30 days of course commencement. A non-refundable course transfer fee of £25 is required to facilitate any course transfer. Once a course transfer has been made, no refund of any course fees or further course transfer is permitted whatsoever.
- Late entry On occasion, at the discretion of Global English and GT Teaching, students may be granted entry onto courses within the 30 day period prior to the course commencement. Late entry is only granted if space is available. When late entry is granted a late entry fee of £25 is applicable. A 7 day full refund policy applies to all late entries from the date of application. No entry onto courses is permitted within 7 days of course commencement.
- Insurance It is strongly recommended that trainees take out insurance to cover course cancellation and that all trainees purchase general travel insurance at the time of course acceptance confirmation. Global English and GT Teaching do not accept responsibility for any costs incurred due to cancelled courses, other than the course fees themselves, which will be reimbursed (as per clause 5, above).
- Flights, Transfers and Accommodation Trainees are solely responsible for booking flights and transfers and may book accommodation independently if they wish. GT Teaching can help with accommodation booking at a budget to suit and will do this on trainees behalf for a small additional fee, payable locally. A list of possible accommodation options on our website is for information only and neither Global English nor GT Teaching accepts responsibility for accommodation standards.
- Course Commencement and Attendance Students who fail to start on their start date, fail to attend regularly, or leave the course prior to the completion, will have their names removed from the course register and will not be eligible to receive a course Certificate upon completion. Students are required to abide by all rules and regulations of GT Teaching while participating on the teaching programme.
- Work opportunities - Global English trainees are teaching worldwide. However, successful completion of our courses or the Teaching Practice Week in Portugal does not guarantee employment. From time to time, recruiting schools and organisations contact Global English looking for teachers. We may post details on our web site and/or contact prospective trainees who may be interested in these posts. However, these schools are not known to Global English and we strongly advise you to vet terms and conditions carefully before accepting work.
- Data Protection - Global English is registered with the Data Protection Agency. To facilitate certain tasks and communication between ourselves and our trainees, we store some details about enquirers and trainees electronically. These include contact details, grades obtained on any Global English course and details of email correspondence. However, this is strictly for use by Global English only and details will not be released to third parties, with the exception of relevant information to GT Teaching. If you have chosen to pay via email using the secure web site, note that we do not store debit or credit card details on our databases. We employ firewall and computer virus protection and take all possible steps to safeguard personal data. Corresponding with Global English by email is seen as acceptance of our data protection policy. Please be aware that we cannot be held responsible for the content, procedures or data policies of websites that we may have links with.
- Global English and English law and liability Global English is a partnership that resides in the UK and is subject to English law. Transacting with Global English is seen as acceptance of the terms and conditions here stated and, should a dispute arise, any proceedings are to be conducted in the UK and are to be subject to English law. Global English shall not be liable for any loss or damage of whatever nature which may arise as a result, directly or indirectly from entry and/or participation on the programme.
